Abstract

Introduction: Toddler age is a critical period in producing quality human resources because the first two years of birth are the optimal period for brain cell growth and development. It is in this age group that the prevalence of wasting and stunting toddlers well as lack of nutrients such as vitamin A, iron, iodine and zinc. The national prevalence of stunting toddlers is 35.6%. This study aims to determine the differences in energy, protein, and micronutrient consumption levels between stunted and non-stunted toddlers in Kartasura Village, Kartasura District, Sukoharjo Regency.

Methods: This study used an observational study with a cross-sectional approach. Participants consisted of 35 stunted toddlers and 35 non-stunted toddlers who met the inclusion criteria. Assessment of nutritional status and z-score was carried out by measuring height using a baby board and microtoice. Food intake data was assessed through interviews using food recalls collected online. Statistical tests in this study included the Independent Sample T test and the Mann Whitney Test.

Results: The results of the study showed that there were differences in the levels of energy consumption (p=0.001), protein (p=0.007), Fe (p=0.000), and vitamin A (p=0.001) between stunted and non-stunted toddlers.

Conclusion: There were differences in the levels of energy, protein, Fe, Zn and Vitamin A consumption between stunted and non-stunted toddlers in Kartasura Village, Kartasura District, Sukoharjo Regency.
