Abstract

Introduction: Conditions of malnutrition in infants, aged 0-24 months can be caused by improper parenting in the provision of complementary feeding (MP-ASI) in quality and quantity. The objective of this study is to analyze the factors associated with parenting complementary feeding for baby ages 6-11 months in densely populated urban village Environment Cipinang Melayu in East Jakarta.

Methods: This research was designed with cross sectional study with sample size was 60 baby ages 6-11 months. This research was conducted at in Densely Populated Urban Village Environment Cipinang Melayu in East Jakarta from January to June 2013. Primery and secondary data were collected in this research.

Result: The result showed that significant correlation between mother’s education (p-value=0,020) and per capita income family (p-value=0,021) with mother’s knowledge and parenting complementary feeding in terms of variety of complementary feeding with protein intake (p-value=0,022). The results showed that there was no significant correlation between maternal knowledge and local eating culture (p-value>0,05) with parenting complementary feeding.

Conclusion: Found that the provision of parenting complementary feeding is not affected by the level of mother knowledge and the local food culture.
