Abstract

Introduction: Cancer is a non-communicable disease characterized by the presence of abnormal cells/tissues that are malignant (Kemenkes RI, 2019). Cancer is a chronic disease that requires long-term therapy. According to data from the National Cancer Institute, the number of children with cancer has increased by 0.6% per year since 2007- 2015. And in 2016 cancer was the second leading cause of death in children in the United States, with around 10,380 children under the age of 15 diagnosed with cancer with a mortality rate of 1,250. Meanwhile, the prevalence of cancer in Indonesia in 2018 was known to be 1.79 per 1000 population, an increase from 2013 which only reached 1.4 per 1000 population.

Method: This article is a review article only.

Results: The results show that the importance of the role of a companion during treatment can improve the nutritional status of children with cancer. Of the 22 journals obtained, it shows a relationship, although it does not show.

Conclusion: the role of the companion affects the nutritional status, and besides that it also affects the conclusions of children with cancer. Although on the other hand there are things that must be sacrificed by the companion, such as economic matters.
