Masalah Gizi pada Pasien Kemoterapi di Tiga Rumah Sakit

Introduction: In patient with chemotherapy treatments often have side effects such as nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, dry and sore throat to swallow so it had a lot of nutritional problems. These side effects will lead to a decrease in food intake. Beside the state’s own cancer causing anemia and metabolic disorders nutrients in the body, which ultimately resulted in decrease in the nutritional status.
Methods: This article is a literature search to examine three studies on chemotherapy effect with cancer patient’s nutrition problems.
Result: Of the three studies it was found that the intake of energy and protein are low and not as needed, owned by cancer patients as a result of side effects of chemotherapy. Severe nutritional status (BMI <17) occurred in patients with stage IIIB cancer because of cancer cachexia. Patients with low BMI, has low energy and protein intake.
Conclusion: Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy are at high risk of reduced energy and protein intake due to treatment side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and stomatitis, as well as the metabolic impact of cancer itself. These factors contribute to a decline in nutritional status, including severe malnutrition such as cancer cachexia, particularly in patients with advanced-stage cancer. Therefore, nutritional status monitoring and appropriate dietary interventions are essential components of care for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.
