Abstract
Introduction: The development of the era plays a role in changing people's consumption patterns. One of them is the habit of consuming snack foods has become a habit among teenagers. Excessive consumption of snack foods will have an impact on increasing the risk of obesity. Various studies have shown that many factors are related to the frequency of snack food consumption. Therefore, this study aims to determine the factors related to the frequency of snack food consumption in teenagers.
Methods: The study conducted cross-sectionally at SMA Negeri 68 Jakarta in April 2012. The sample for this study consisted of 188 students from SMA Negeri 68 Jakarta in grades X and XI, selected using the cluster sampling method. Data was gathered by completing independent questionnaires and doing 24-hour meal recall interviews. This study's data analysis consisted of univariate and bivariate Chi Square tests.
Result: Univariate analysis revealed that 52.1% of respondents eat street food on a regular basis. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant correlation (p-value <0.05) between teenagers' snack consumption frequency and gender, breakfast routines, mass media use, and peer group.
Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between pocket money, knowledge level, and frequency of snack food consumption.
